One Billion Meals and More: Yank Barry
August 20, 2016If you want to refer to Yank Barry as a successful businessman, you’re missing much of his story. He started out with a 30-year career in the music industry as a singer, songwriter, arranger, producer and publisher. He followed that up with a very successful career as a food entrepreneur and executive with Vitapro, a dehydrated soy-based meat-replacement product.
As he traveled the world for business, Yank saw conditions that changed everything for him. He saw that people in many places were living in the harshest possible conditions and he was driven to change that. These days, Yank Barry is probably best known as a philanthropist because that drive was very, very strong.
For example, Yank Barry’s work with his global hunger initiative, Global Village Champions Foundation, has provided more than one billion meals to hungry people throughout the world over about 20 years.
However, Yank and his wife Yvette don't just give money and have someone else do the hard work; they go in themselves and work closely with local agencies and NGOs throughout the world to help people, even in politically unstable areas where few others would even consider venturing into.
